How to be Photogenic in 30 Days

"Hey :) it's David here! Yes - yes, this is a course on taking better photos of yourself, but this course goes way beyond that. I never thought my journey of taking self-portraits would ever start me on this beautiful journey of self-love, growth, and confidence, but I have never appreciated my beauty and myself like the way I do today.

Learning how to take self-portraits that I love means changing the way I think about photos - that it's not for Instagram, but for me. And through this I've been able to build up my self-esteem, help my friends see their beauty, and connect with my clients and anyone on the same path of not letting others dictate their beauty and worth. I want to share everything in the most entertaining way possible so LET'S DO THIS!"

📷 Can truly ANYONE be Photogenic?

I never considered myself to be photogenic. To me, I was always the goofy, scrawny, and cute guy who felt the need to make funny faces in photos as a defense mechanism.

And you might be asking, "but David how is that possible as a photographer?" Well. even though I would be helping clients of all shapes, sizes, and backgrounds see and embrace their beauty, I realized during the first Covid outbreak that I never saw myself as a beautiful person.

What I found was that being a photographer wasn't enough. What I was missing was the effort and the want - both things my clients had.

So during quarantine, I took to treating myself like I treat my client for once and started asking myself uncomfortable questions like...

  • when was the last time you saw a beautiful photo of yourself?
  • what are some things you notice in photos of yourself that you don't like?
  • who do you want to see in these photos?

I practically broke myself down enough to the point where I acknowledged that I am deserving of a photo that I deem beautiful and proud of.

So in my most vulnerable state, I stood in front of my camera and started photographing myself. I posed myself the same way I posed my clients and whenever I would feel frustrated, I actively told myself that's not how I would treat a client. And after a grueling two hour shoot and scrolling through hundreds of photos I couldn't stand of myself, I saw a photo of myself that made my jaw drop for the first time.

So short answer, yes - ANYONE can be photogenic because it is a skill. However, even before learning any skills to be photogenic, you have to re-learn what it means to be photogenic.

When we've never seen a beautiful photo of ourselves and all we see are photos of other people on social media deemed as beautiful, what does that do to our beauty standards?

With the understanding of how much of an influence today's world has on us, I created this course to not only teach you everything I know about being a photographer and a model, but to help you re-define what it means to be beautiful for nobody else but you.

I've been leading myself on to believe I'm not photogenic my whole life and I want to change that.

I want to prove to myself that I'm beautiful & photogenic.

I'm told I'm beautiful and I believe it but I want to be able to see it in photos as well.

I know I'm beautiful but I just can't get a photo I like of myself.

I'm a bad b*tch & I want to show the world.

My friends and I always dress up and take time to get cute photos for each other. I just want to get better at doing for them and be more confident in front of the camera.

I'm the baddest and I want to show it off to the world but I want to have the skills to match my energy.

I enjoy taking pictures with my friends.

I'm a creative at heart and I want to use selfies as a way to explore myself and freely express who I am without feeling judgement.

I want to express myself freely through selfies.

I could be doing amazing until the moment a camera comes up and I have no idea what to do with my face and hands.

I'm tired of freezing in front of the camera.

I'm so used to capturing the beauty for other people that I never thought to do so for myself.

I'm a photographer and I want to capture photos of myself too.

The modeling world has standards of beauty that can be harsh and extreme. I want to learn to model for myself first before anyone else.

I'm a new model & I want to be comfortable in my own skin.

I want to prove to myself that I'm beautiful & photogenic.

This course isn't for you if...

1. You're not willing to put in the time and effort to plan and do 1 photoshoot per week during the 5 weeks.

2. You're looking for a magic potion that'll make you "photogenic" without any effort. There's no secret here. It's just about putting in the work and doing it consistently, while finding new ways to express yourself creatively.

3. You're hoping to get an intermediate modeling or photography exclusive course. This course focuses on ONE main objective: teaching you how to take a photo you love of yourself. To achieve that, I teach you a variety of necessary skills, mindset, and exercises that incorporate skills associated with being a model and photographer such as posing, confidence, movement, framing, lighting, camera angles, etc. HOWEVER, this is not a standalone posing or photography course. If you are looking to learn to be a photographer where I purely focus on that alone, check out my photography course HERE. If you are looking to learn to pose, I have courses coming soon where I'll JUST be focusing on posing. This is a holistic course that truly covers many elements to help you bring out your most confident self in front of the camera.

Having said all that, one thing we can guarantee is that if you make time to create meaningful photoshoots once a week, and start expressing your creative self with joy, this course will change your life and walk away with beautiful friends that share the same passion as you.

It takes two to tango and it certainly is the same for photoshoots. You can be the most confident model, but if you don't know how how to capture your essence through lighting and angles you won't be able to capture a photo you love.

Week 3

Becoming a Model

Do you ever feel like you don't know what to do with your hands? Or your face? Or anything beyond that one pose? I teach you everything about finding your angle, your expression, and how to never run out of poses again.

Week 2

Re-defining Beauty

Even before you learn to take a photo or how to pose, you have to define your purpose and re-define the concept of beauty and what it means to be photogenic.

Week 1

In just  5 short weeks  you'll have unlocked a whole new side of you that you never knew about.

In our final week, we're going to learn about editing and how to add the final touch to your beautiful photos.

Week 5

You’ll leave not only feeling more confident in front of the camera, but you’ll gain invaluable skills in modeling and photography that’ll help take your photos to the next level.

Why this course
is different.

read the faq'S

I wanted to make this course as entertaining as possible which means incorporating as much of MY energy - the energy you grew to love on TikTok and Instagram!

I hired a talented group of individuals to showcase the crazy world in my head onto screen and we took extra time to make learning as fun as possible.

If you enjoy my teaching style online, which I would describe as loving, passionate, caring, lots of visual demonstrations, analogies, on-screen critiques, and sprinkled with some truth talks... then you'll love this course :)

The SUH Factor

This is a hybrid online course with elements of asynchronous and synchronous learning and you'll have access to the videos forever.

I wanted to make this a 5-week course so I can help facilitate learning, but you can totally take as much time you need and enjoy the flexibility to start & stop whenever you need to. I incorporated as many accountability resources I can to keep you excited to learn and implement. BONUS: You get access to this course forever which means access to any future updates!

Hybrid Learning
& Forever Access

Our community was a big hit in Cohort 1 & 2 and so many of the graduates mentioned how big of a role it played in their learning experience. As any communities, it's what you make of it. Those that engaged in discussion posts and commented on fellow student's photo posts truly left the 5-weeks with beautiful relationships (some even met up for coffee and keep up on a weekly basis).

Something I appreciate and cherish so much is having my group of friends that share similar values as me. Friends that know the value of a beautiful photo that goes way beyond just an Instagram post. Imagine having digital friends that can hype you up, provide feedback, and learn together.

Join a Passion Driven & Wholesome Community

I personally believe that deep learning comes from context. To me context means, how much you're wanting to learn, who you're learning from, and how the information applies directly to you.

I want to provide as much of my self as possible to you so you can ask as many questions as possible. Yes, I will teach you the basics of photo taking, but I want to encourage you to look for what you want and push you to find your style and the best way for me to do that is through these office hours.

Weekly Live Lectures & Office Hours with David

There is no learning without doing. Grabbing what you learn from each week and taking it to the playground is one of the most important aspects to active growth in this 5-week curriculum.

Every week, all the students are given a specific mission related to the week's lesson to accomplish. It's made to challenge you, help you practice what you learned, get you more acquainted to the beautiful you, let you express creatively, and keep you accountable.

To help give incredible feedbacks with lots of positive affirmations and practical improvement tips, I hired 4 highly successful photographers I look up to and respect and you will be able to receive a feedback once from each of the TA's.

Weekly Missions and TA Feedbacks

A big component to growth is settings goals and visually being able to track your progress. This can be easy when it comes to goals like becoming healthier where you can create quantifiable goals such as "cook a balanced meal from home 3 times a week" and "go on an adventurous hike once a week."

Knowing how important it's been for me to setup those trackable goals for my personal growth in any area of life, I wanted to make sure I can do that for you and this course. I want to make sure you don't just feel photogenic completing the course, I want you to see with your own eyes how far you progressed - so I introduce to you: Growth Charts.

All of our students will be receiving one pre-course self-analysis quiz and a post-course self-analysis quiz that helps visually map out core elements that I believe go into becoming photogenic.

"This class is a lot of fun and changes the way you think about photographing yourself. I used to think photography techniques are just illusions to make myself look better. David makes you realize that you are beautiful to begin with, and he shows you how photography techniques bring out that inner beauty. Plus his lessons are there to cheer you on every step of the way."

Ron C.

"David has created a magical course in a safe, creative space to help you capture images of your natural beauty. If you are ready to grow and see how good you look then sign up now."

George M.

"David's course completely transformed the way that I viewed images of myself. I feel so empowered that I can create a beautiful work of art featuring myself as the subject AND be confident about sharing it with the world. The community is also fabulous! I felt so supported and like I had made so many new wonderful friends. This is probably one of the best investments that I have made in the last few years, possibly my life."

Judy B.

“How To Be Photogenic with David Suh” surpassed my expectations of what an online photography course could be like. I had expected this course to be passive learning, but found that David and his team really took the time to not only interact with you and provide feedback, but also helped foster a community as well. That said, this isn’t just a photography or modeling course, but an opportunity to really look inward and change your perspective on what it means to be photogenic.

Eileen B.

"I signed up for this course because I enjoy David's art and how he genuinely explains what he does on his social media. My intention was to learn how to look better in photos. I succeeded in that, but I also ended up learning a lot about myself! I stepped out of my comfort zone every week and experienced personal growth from participating in the "missions". The self-confidence that I gained from taking this course is priceless!"
